Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns, #1)

Three Dark Crowns (Three Dark Crowns #1) by Kendare Blake

Release Date: 20/09/16

When kingdom come, there will be one.

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born—three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.

The last queen standing gets the crown.

4 Three Dark Queens on Goodreads

Three Dark Queens
are born in a glen,
sweet little triplets
will never be friends.

Three dark sisters
all fair to be seen,
two to devour
and one to be Queen.

Queen Asinoe was a little weak queen, and she her gift didn’t seem to show at all. I truely felt sorry for her throughout, she seemed to get a really hard time.

Queen Katharine was the poisoner queen, and her power was also quite weak. She has been repeatedly poisoned all her life to try to improve her gift but it doesn’t really help her.

Queen Mirabella was able to control the elements, and was the strongest of the three queens. She seemed to have a bit of a softer side that we didn’t see in the others.

This was incredibly hard for me to get into. I found the first half boring and it dragged so badly, but I kept with it as I just found the whole concept of this book to be so interesting.  Even though I did say the progression was slow, I did like the story and It did get better as I went along.

This story ended on a cliffhanger and I normally don’t mind them that much. I won’t spoil it, but my mouth literally dropped!
