Top 5 Libraries

Did you know that its free to join the library. All you need for most libraries is proof of address and photo ID. I work for in Libraries and I thought I’d share a few of my favourite free things that your local library has to offer for free.

Let me know if you used any of these services and what you think of them.

Download magazines and Graphic Novel/Comic Collection

Zinio link

With Zinio and your library card, you can download magazines for free to any of your digital devices. The Economist, Allure, BBC Good Food, Cross Stitch Crazy, Runner’s World UK, Women’s Fitness, BBC Top Gear, Grazia, Hello. Thats but a few that our online. There is something for everyone within Zinio.

Also new to libraries online resources is Comics Plus: Library Edition. This brings unlimited access to thousands of digital graphic novels and comics to library patrons on any of your devices.

Learn a foreign language

South Dublin Libraries have just introduced a new online language learning service – Mango Languages

This service is being provided as part of a Libraries Ireland initiative and you can access the service and start learning now with Mango Languages. Mango is a great way to learn or improve your knowledge and use of foreign language. It gives you access to over 80 languages to choice from. To sign up all you need is your library card number to register.

Download eBooks and digital audio-books

Borrowbox is an app you can use through your local library website. It is free and you can borrow up to date and popular titles. All these titles below are available to borrow from BorrowBox. All you have to do is set up an account with your library card and PIN number. Then download the BorrowBox app to your phone, tablet or PC/laptop to get started.

Here is borrowbox’s Chart for August as you can see there are some fab titles up there this month.

Parenting support classes

Some libraries offer support and educational programming geared toward parents. Sign up to your local libraries news letter and you should get an email every month to let you know whats going on and what type of talks they will be having that month. Here is the link to South Dublin Libraries newsletter sign up page.

Book recommendations

Not only do many libraries have a display with staff recommendations, but some also have book blogs.

Their are two library blogs that I’m involved with one I run on my own. I run a YA blog called YAPS! I won a blog award for this YAPS! last year, YAPS is a young adult blog and is updated regularly with new and up coming titles as well as much, much more. Check it out and let me know what you think of it.

There is also Ballyroan Reads, which is a book review blog from Ballyroan Library and South Dublin Libraries staff. It’s updated with review from various staff members across the board, so you know your going to get a little of everything. You’ll definitely find something to read within this blog.

Of course you can also always pop up to the desk and the staff will be happy to offer some suggestions.
