Coming-of-age stories are a genre of literature that focuses on the growth of a person from youth to adulthood. These stories tend to emphasize dialogue or internal monologue over action, and are often set in the past. These seveb books are my top coming of age novels. seven novels that if you have’t read.. well you need to get on that 🙂 Have you got some good ones you want to share with me? I’d love to hear from you all.
‘When a child first catches adults out – when it first walks into his grave little head that adults do not always have divine intelligence, that their judgments are not always wise, their thinking true, their sentences just – his world falls into panic desolation. The gods are fallen and all safety gone.’

I just recently got The Outsiders. I have seen the movie already but I have never read the book. Also I have tried reading To Kill a Mockingbird but couldn’t get into it. I will definitely be giving it another shot though. I also have Little Women on my shelf but I have yet to read it.

Great list! East of Eden is my favorite novel, and definitely deserves a spot on a coming of age list. Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man is another really powerful American coming of age story.
